Letters to the Editor – a great learning tool

Published by kiwikids on

Letters to the Editor is a great learning topic.

Teaching how to write a good letter requires students to;
critically reflect on an issue
form an opinion
develop a coherent argument
plan and write their point of view.

To help teach this great skill, Kiwi Kids News has put together a simple 3 part unit to help teachers.

Within the lessons, students will look at the key features of a Letter to the Editor, practice writing in groups and then write their own individually. Their final letter will be uploaded to the Kiwi Kids News website.
Lesson 1 – What is a Letter to the Editor?
Lesson 2 – How do we structure a Letter to the Editor?
Lesson 3 – Creating our own Letters to the Editor.
